Bandarlampung (ANTARA) - The Lampung Regional Police reported that a joint team extinguished forest and land fires in the Way Kambas National Park (TNWK) area of East Lampung.

"Despite difficult terrain and strong winds that hampered access, the fire was successfully extinguished after approximately 200 joint personnel were deployed to the location," Lampung Police Public Relations Chief Senior Commissioner Yuni Iswandari stated on Sunday.

She explained that the firefighting operation began at 4 p.m. local time and was declared extinguished at around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, following collaborative ground efforts.

"The fire in the Way Kambas National Park area was successfully extinguished at 7:30 p.m. local time. Joint personnel worked tirelessly to prevent the fire from reigniting," she added.

The deployed team comprised personnel from the East Lampung Police, 0429/Lamtim Military District Command (Kodim), Lampung Regional Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob), Territorial Development Battalion (Yonif TP), TNWK, Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), firefighters, and volunteers.

Iswandari said officers continue to wet the affected area to prevent embers in the undergrowth and dry vegetation from reigniting the fire.

"Although the fire has been successfully extinguished, officers have not yet left the site and are continuing to wet the area," she remarked.

According to her, the measure is necessary to prevent residual embers from causing the fire to reignite.

"This aims to ensure there are no remaining embers and to prevent the reappearance of hotspots," she added.

She mentioned that TNWK personnel are carrying out patrols and sweeps alongside wetting efforts to identify any hidden hotspots that could potentially spread.

"We are maintaining monitoring and patrols. The TNWK team is combing the area to make sure there are no other hotspots that have gone undetected," Iswandari noted.
